All the little things: May

May 30, 2018Hels

I know I say this every month, but I can’t believe how quickly time is flying! I can’t believe it’s nearly June.

May has been a really lovely month: Bank Holidays, a Royal Wedding, sunshine and plenty of family time. Here are a few of my favourite things that made May so good…

I’ve read quite a lot this month, but All The Light We Cannot See was definitely the best of the bunch. I’ve shared a more detailed review of this book in my What I read in May post, but it’s a story set primarily during the Second World War. It follows Marie-Laure LeBlanc, a young, blind French girl, and Werner Pfennig, a scientifically-minded young German boy. It’s quite a chunky read, but it is so worth the time.

Sam and I started This Is Us at the beginning of the month. I don’t want to sound too dramatic, but it is probably the most wonderful show I have ever watched. I cried at almost every episode, I don’t think I’ve ever loved a fictional character as much as I love Jack Pearson, and Sam and I are completely obsessed with it. If you haven’t watched it, I cannot recommend it highly enough.

If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, or have seen my latest post, you’ll know Sam, Dougie and I spent a few days in Nîmes in the south of France. It was an amazing few days in the most beautiful place, and I want to go back!

Dougie moment

He has been amazing this month. I feel like he’s growing up so much at the moment, which is wonderful and terrifying in equal measures. He was absolutely brilliant in Nîmes, and was so well-behaved on the place, which was something I was nervous about. I think one of my favourite moments this month was watching him on the beach in France. He was really intrigued by the sea, but very uncertain about it, and kept running backwards when the waves came towards him. He gradually became more confident and paddled with Sam, and watching them play together was so lovely to see.

A small thing, but as I was away from work for a week, I wanted to get on top of things as there is no-one to cover me if I’m not in. I managed to do all the articles I needed to do for while I was away, as well as a few for this week, so I didn’t have the back-to-work dread. Also, we rearranged Dougie’s nursery so all his toys are in there (rather than spread over our living room). We were kindly given a play kitchen for him a few months ago, which was lovely, but it was SO ugly. I spent an afternoon painting it and we got some toy pots and pans for him, and he loves it – I’m really pleased I took the time to do that!

I have a lot from this month! Aside from all the photos we took in France, I love this one of Dougie I took by St Pauls Cathedral. We went to meet Sam for lunch, and it was a beautiful day – who knew there were so many beautiful green, flowery spots in central London?!

What have been your favourite moments this month?
