I can’t believe how quickly our wedding is coming up. It always seemed like it was ages away, we had so many other weddings to go to before ours, but now there is only one more wedding and then the countdown really is on!
Planning a wedding is stressful. Really stressful. People told me it would be but I thought, nah, it’ll be fun! I’m sure others have managed to successfully plan a stress-free wedding (if you did, please teach me your ways) but I’m really struggling!
The big things are sorted – the church, the reception venue, the guest list (which was, hands down, the most difficult and frustrating part!) and the food and drink. It’s really the little things now that I want to get done. I’ve also got my dress sorted, and thanks to UK Lingerie, I even have my underwear sorted! This wasn’t something I’d thought about at all, but I was very kindly sent a beautiful underwear set, the Aubade Jardin des Delices Plunge Bra* and the Aubade Jardin des Delices Saint Tropez Brief*, which are absolutely stunning, and perfect for the wedding day. The set is incredibly high quality and the lace is elegant and delicate, and the detail is amazing.
It seems like forever ago since we got engaged, although so much has happened since then that it’s no wonder time has flown! I thought I’d share our engagement story though as I haven’t shared it on here, but it’s a story that makes me so happy!
Every year we have been together, we have gone away on a long weekend together in January, it ties in with our anniversary and as Sam’s birthday is just before Christmas, it always gives us something to look forward to after all the festivities of December.
For Sam’s 30th birthday, I wanted to take him away somewhere, and so after a lot of saving and planning, I booked a trip to New York. I had planned not to tell him until we got to the airport, but I got far too excited and told him on his birthday. I wanted the trip to be amazing so I had already booked a few things to do when we were there – Aladdin on Broadway, a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden, a trip up the Rockefeller and a day pass for a gym/spa.
Our anniversary was on Wednesday 13th Jan, and we were going to see Aladdin that night. On the Wednesday morning he suggested going for a walk around Central Park. I wanted to go, but it was around -7degrees and no matter how many jumpers I had on, I just didn’t feel warm! However, I thought it would be quite romantic for our anniversary and it was a beautiful day, in spite of the cold, so off we went.
We walked through the park, and Sam suggested going to Gapstow Bridge as it has a lovely view of the city. He also loves Home Alone, so for fans of the films, it’s the bridge where the Pigeon Lady is (that reference was lost on me). We headed there, and took some photos of the city on the bridge. A few people were walking past but the park was really quiet – oddly very few people fancied a stroll in those temperatures! I started to continue our walk but Sam was kind of hovering, so I took a couple of photos over the bridge, and then turned around to see where he was.
He was down on one knee. I just remember being REALLY confused and asked him what he was doing. He had out the most beautiful ring, and asked me to marry him.
It was absolutely perfect. He’d called my parents the night before to ask their permission, which I loved. We called our families, but otherwise we kept the news to ourselves for a bit, we just wanted to enjoy it together 🙂
We had originally wanted to get married later that year…however four days later we found out Dougie was on the way, so we decided to wait until after Dougie was born, that way he could be part of our day!
So now, nearly two years after we got engaged, the wedding is just a few weeks away…!
*UK Lingerie kindly sent me this underwear set in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
