Foodies Festival

Bank Holiday Monday was spent with the lovely Abbey at Syon Park, exploring the Foodies Festival. Be warned, this post is mainly going to be photos of food 🙂

The glorious sunshine of the weekend had vanished, but the rain held off for most of the day and it was still pretty warm.

We browsed the schedule of events, and decided to get tickets to a few of the talks in the Cake & Dessert Theatre. First up, we saw Sarah Sibley from Bake with Sarah making cupcakes and showing us how to decorate them, both with icing and with beautiful sugar flowers.

After the demonstration we wandered around the various stalls, eyeing up the amazing-looking sweet treats. We decided to have something savoury first, so we both opted for calamari, and as the rain made an appearance, we sat in a tent to eat.

Once we’d eaten, we headed back to the Cake & Dessert Theatre to watch how to make Mug Cakes – definitely something I want to try and make!

We invested in some impressive looking doughnuts, though neither of us managed to eat them at that point, and then we spotted a stand selling freakshakes, which is something I’ve always wanted to try because they just look so amazing. I got the Strawberry Delight and Abbey had the Triple Choc Deluxe. Piled high with cream and sweets, they looked incredible.

After taking a few necessary photos of them, we made our way to the live music stage to sit and drink them. We managed the shakes, and made a valiant effort with all the lollipops and sticks of rock that came with them! The music was fun, and it was really nice to just sit and chat.

I think I’d expected the event to be a bit bigger with more food stalls, and a few more tasters and samples of food and drink. There were Masterchef contestants doing demonstrations in one of the tents, and GBBO winner Candice Brown had been at the show on the Saturday, so maybe the other days had been bigger and more impressive, whereas the Monday was a little quieter, but it was still a really fun (and tasty) way to spend the Bank Holiday!

(Excuse the terrible selfie-taking on my part, but look how good those shakes look. Also, our matching navy stripes were unintentional :))
