London is the place

London is the place I’ve lived for nearly 10 years, the place where I met my fiancé and where I met my best friend. London is the place where my son was born. London is the place where I fell in love with theatre, and in doing so, where I met some of the most amazing friends.

London is the place that gave me independence when I moved away from home. London is the place I went to university, and where I got my first job, and where I still work now.

London is the place where we bought our first home, our lovely flat in Dulwich, surrounded by beautiful parks where I can take Dougie for picnics. London is the place where I’ll be getting married later this year, surrounded by our friends and family.

London is the place where Harry Potter gets the train to Hogwarts from, and where Sherlock solves crimes. London is where Mary Poppins flew in to, and where the Artful Dodger pickpocketed.

London is the place filled with museums, galleries, theatres and world-famous landmarks, sites people travel from all over the world to see. London is the place where the Olympics were held in 2012, and the place where I sat and watched Andy Murray win Wimbledon. London is the place with one of the greatest marathons in the world.

London is the place I’m raising my son, the city where I will take him on trains and tubes, and take him to see the famous sites, where we can sit on the London Eye, go to football matches and concerts.

London is the place where people come together, and we’ll continue to do so.

London is the place I call home.

This is beautiful! Having lived in London all my life up until last year, it’s definitely a place I will always call home and I worked with you in this beautiful city!

  • Aww this is really beautifully written, Helen – like a poem! There is something really special about London and you should be proud to call it your home! <3 xxx

I love this post so much! I actually feel quite teary reading it because it’s such a lovely celebration of a fabulous city. There is so much to be discovered in London, not only in places but also in yourself as a person. I love London. This is just what we all need to see after the atrocities seen in the Terrorist attack from the weekend. Thank you! 🙂 xx

It sounds like you love your home of London very much! I can’t even imagine what it’s like living in London because I lived in the countryside all my life until 3 years ago (I live in a small Norfolk town now). I am still yet to visit London, but I will one day 🙂

  • This is such a lovely, moving tribute to your home city. London is so much more than the victim of terror attacks, and the people of London are showing the rest of the world exactly how to stand tall in the face of cowardly attempts to tear down what’s great about it.
