Last week I flew to Budapest to go to Sziget Festival…
Budapest is one of my favourite places to visit, and it was absolutely beautiful last week. Sziget Festival is held on an island in the heart of the city, and with a group of friends, we had tickets for the Thursday and Friday. I won’t lie, I’d be up since around 3am on the Thursday morning for my flight so I was absolutely shattered for the most part of the trip, but there was enough entertainment going on to distract me from my need to sleep.
On Thursday we saw The Maccabees, Foals and Interpol. The Maccabees were great, although they were on around 4pm so didn’t get the crowd they should have done. Foals were absolutely amazing, and following them we went to see Interpol.
Friday, I’ll be honest, I didn’t know as many of the bands that were on (okay, I had heard of about 3) but Kasabian and Avicii were the big names that day. We caught the end of Marina and the Diamonds, and just before Kasabian came on there was a Color Party – a lot of coloured paint powder being thrown into the air over a hot and sweaty crowd – lots of fun although not ideal for an asthmatic like me. Kasabian aren’t a band I’d usually choose to listen to but they were incredible. The whole crowd were loving it and it was a lot of fun, albeit very sweaty. We moved out of the crowd to top up our drinks and watched Avicii from a distance which was really fun – lots of cool lights and effects.
Sziget had plenty going on if you weren’t keen on the big names performing. There was a games area, an art section, circus tents, international dance areas, a sports zone where you could play basketball or volleyball and even a beach.
